Mary M. Riggio, Ph.D.

Mary M. Riggio, Ph.D., PLLC is a licensed and certified school psychologist who received her doctorate degree in Clinical Developmental Psychology from Bryn Mawr College.  She completed her internship at the Reading Hospital where she trained in a variety of clinical settings, including inpatient, outpatient, and partial programs.  Dr. Riggio’s training also included work at the University of Pennsylvania’s Counseling Center, Upper Darby School District, an inpatient program for children and young adolescents, and a community mental health center.  Prior to the opening of the Bryn Mawr Center with her colleagues, she was a psychologist at the Child Study Institute.

Dr. Riggio works with children, adolescents, and young adults through individual, family, and group therapy modalities.  She specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders (e.g., generalized anxiety, panic, obsessive-compulsive disorder, specific phobias, and social anxiety), depression, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), school and behavioral interventions, social skills or peer relationship difficulties, and anger management.  With warmth and empathy, Dr. Riggio primarily draws upon the developmental, cognitive behavioral (CBT), and family systems models to help individuals and families achieve their goals.  She often collaborates with schools and other professionals when requested by clients.

In addition to her work as a therapist, Dr. Riggio also provides psychological assessments.  She conducts admissions testing for independent schools and full psychoeducational evaluations, the latter of which can help caregivers understand their child’s academic strengths/needs and behavioral/social-emotional functioning.  Reports from psychoeducational assessments also provide recommendations for educational and emotional supports in the school and home settings.

Dr. Riggio leads social skills groups for elementary and middle school students in eight week sessions several times throughout the year.  These groups are designed to promote growth of social literacy skills and are appropriate for children who are experiencing difficulty in peer relationships.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Riggio is currently offering telehealth and in-person sessions.
